The dresses were great (Lupita Nyong'o couldn't be more stunning) and the George Clooney joke in the opening dialogue was the BEST (where WAS he last night?), but there's really only one highlight for me from last night's 2014 Golden Globe Awards: Tina & Amy biting back at Taylor Swift.
Last year when they totally nailed it hosting the Golden Globes, Tina Fey & Amy Poehler took a mild shot at Taylor Swift by suggesting she stay away from Michael J. Fox's son (who was Mr. Golden Globes). Pretty gentle humour, and totally appropriate since T.Swift makes all her (frequent) dating choices very public via songs, instagram, and other forms of social and traditional media.
After the award show, Taylor publicly declared in subtle reference to their comments that she loves the quote "There's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women." I found it so ridiculous that Taylor couldn't laugh at herself, and took it that seriously. No sense of humour at all. Disappointing, and it made me start to actually like Kanye for a minute...
Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are absolute visionaries. Strong female role models. Successful in a male-dominated industry. Working Mothers. Best Friends. Advocates for their comedic peers, both men and women. Being the subject of one of their jokes would be a true honour. Any modern-thinking woman would know that. Just look at how Julia Louis-Dreyfus played along with their jokes (at her expense) at this year's show. Genius.
Last night they served their revenge - cold, as it is best done - by sliding in a subtle comment after Amy won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Comedy.
Tina: "...Amy Poehler, I love you, and there's a special place in hell for you."
Cheers ladies. You did it again.
